Miss Make Dioptra Quilt - Ombre Version

Continuing on with my mini Dioptra blog tour, today I’m sharing my Ombre Dioptra sample.

Valley of Fire, Nevada

This is the Large Throw size of Dioptra. At 71.5” square, it’s a pretty substantial throw quilt, perfect for a cozy couch blanket or extra bed layer.

The beautiful fabrics in this quilt are from the Vessel collection by Alexia Abegg for Ruby Star Society, which should be in stores winter 2022. Alexia was inspired by her work as a potter, and I just loved the naturally muted shades of the prints. In the Ombre/Scrappy version of Dioptra, each star can be made with 1 FQ, so it’s a great way to use up some of your stash!

Because the stars in Dioptra are nested, there is a bit more than usual to keep track of during assembly, especially if you are making an Ombre/Scrappy version where each star is a different fabric. That is why both the PDF and printed versions of the pattern come with fabric placement worksheets to help you stay organized while you’re sewing.

The beautiful quilting on this sample was done by Mindy of Wild Phil Quilting. I love the texture of the baptist fan panto! For the backing fabric I used Alexia Abegg’s new 108” Moonglow print. Printed on standard unbleached quilting cotton, it’s a little thicker and more rustic than the other RSS 108” prints. Once quilted, it is so soft and pretty, I love it!
