thanks for the tip! i asked my grandma and she said she used to see straw put down on the soil as a barrier between the berries and the dirt. so i might try that, or possibly newspaper since I don't want to buy a whole bale of straw.

I remember my mother had a pot with strawberries (growing in the Dutch weather, lol) rather than to put the plants straight into the soil. I don't think they ever got eaten - then again, it's quite possible we don't have the same bugs you've round there. Perhaps go check out a garden centre and ask for advice?

Devon, you have cute little green babies there. I remember that hostile "patio" in Chinatown. Nice to be able to get sink your hands into the the rich Southern California soil! And still a talented writer also!!
