Heart String Quilt

Finally! My heart string quilt top has been quilted, bound, embroidered, washed, photographed, and shipped. Whew!

I made this quilt as a wedding gift for a friend. I used this great tutorial from Film in the Fridge to learn how to make string blocks, then made them in two different sizes - 10" and 5.25" - to create vaguely heart shaped blocks. I wanted hearts but I didn't want them to be obvious. I think it kinda worked. [For a few closer shots check out the quilt top post linked above.]

The colors started off as blues, greens and yellows, but I found myself continually wanting to add in a few reds, so eventually I caved.

The back is the same cocoa color as the heart lines with a little band of fabrics sampled from the front. I just love the typewriter.

And since it was for a wedding, I embroidered the bride and groom's names and wedding date on the back.

Hopefully it will be well loved for many years. Congrats Anna and Kendall!

  1. gorgeous as always lady! you're a quilting machine! so hope to come on the 7th :)

  2. it's so very pretty - lucky couple!

  3. I love the traditional string design and the modern twist you gave it with your design and colors. I'm a friend of your mom's from the trip to Israel. I found the story about 'Kate' on your mom's facebook page. A very touching and wonderful story. Someday I hope we get to meet.
